Download a template as a Word file (.docx)

Exporting templates requires specific permissions. To download a template from a shared template space, you must have rights to “Manage templates” within that source template space. Ensure you have this permission enabled before proceeding, or contact your company administrator for help.

Once enabled, follow these steps to export a template as a Word document:

Locate the template

  • Click on the Templates tab from the main navigation menu at the top of the screen.

  • Use the left-hand sidebar to choose the source of your template:

    • Private: Templates you created and are not added to shared spaces yet.

    • Shared: Templates stored within shared templates spaces you have access to.

    • Contractbook library: Pre-made professional templates.

  • Use the Search for templates field at the top of the sidebar to find a template by title.

  • You can further narrow your results by using the Language and Sort by dropdown filters at the top of the list.

Export the template to Word file

Once you have located the correct template, you must open it to access the export menu.

  • Click on the name of the template to open it in the editor.

  • Click on the three dots icon located in the action bar at the top-right corner of the page.

Select Download as Word (.docx) from the dropdown menu.

Important considerations for Word exports

While downloading a template provides flexibility for offline review, there are technical limitations to how Contractbook-native elements are handled after downloading.

  • Static content: All rich components, including Data fields and Conditional logic, are flattened into static text. This means they will no longer be interactive or linked to your company data in Contractbook.

  • Attachments: Any files attached to the Contractbook template are not included in the .docx download and must be added or shared separately.

  • Workflow disconnection: The exported file is a static Word document. Any edits made in Word will not sync back to the original version in your Contractbook account.
