Create sub-spaces and move contract spaces
Organizing your contract repository into a clear, nested hierarchy requires specific permissions. To create sub-spaces to main contract spaces, or move existing contract spaces to a different location, you must have the “Manage space” permission shared with you for the relevant spaces - both the source and the new contract space. Alternatively, you must be the creator of both contract spaces.
Create a sub-space
Creating sub-spaces allows you to build a logical structure in your contract spaces’ sidebar (e.g., nesting a "Q1 2026" sub-space under a main "Sales Contracts" space).
Click on the Contracts tab from the main menu tab.
Locate the parent contract space in the left-hand sidebar where you want the new sub-space to be created.
Click on the three small grey dots next to the parent space's title.
Select Add a sub-space from the drop-down menu.
Type a descriptive name for your new sub-space and click the blue Create button to complete the action.
Move a contract space
If you need to reorganize your contract spaces’ sidebar, you can move existing spaces. You can nest a top-level space under another contract space to make it a sub-space, or move a sub-space to a top level.
Locate the specific space you want to relocate in the left-hand sidebar under the Contracts main menu tab.
Click on the three small grey dots next to the space's title.
Select Move space from the drop-down menu.
Select the new location for the contract space from the dropdown menu to finalize the move.
Click on the blue Move button to confirm the new destination for the selected contract space.
Frequently asked questions
Who can see my sub-spaces?
Access to sub-spaces is managed exactly like in main contract spaces. You can check who has access to a specific sub-space by clicking the Manage access button within its specific three dots’ menu in the contract spaces sidebar or from the up left-hand button after opening the sub-space.
What happens if I delete a parent space?
If you delete a main contract space that has sub-spaces nested within it, the entire structure will be permanently deleted. You must delete or move any contracts available within these spaces before deletion. Click here to read more about spaces’ deletion.
