Suggest changes to a received contract
Suggesting changes requires you to be a designated signee on the pending contract. If you review a contract and realize terms need to be negotiated before you can sign it, you can send a change request directly back to the sender.
Follow these steps to propose an amendment instead of completing your signature:

Submit a change request
Open the pending contract from your email notification or your platform Home menu tab, under “Ready for my signature” section, if you are signed in to your Contractbook account.

Click the three dots menu in the upper-left corner next to the contract title.
Click Suggest changes from the drop-down menu.

A text box will appear. Type your proposed changes, questions, or amendments into the field.

Click the blue Send button to submit your message to the sender.

This action sends your change request message along with the contract back to the sender. It does not apply direct edits or redlines to specific text within the body of the contract and the sender will have to edit this manually based on your message.

What happens after you request a change?
Once you submit a change request, the signature process of the pending contract is immediately paused for everyone added as a signee. The status of the contract becomes "Changes requested”.
The contract automatically becomes hidden and inaccessible to all other signees or collaborators with access to it.
The contract sender will see your requested changes displayed at the top navigation bar of the contract in Contractbook and in the email notification they will receive automatically.
The sender must review your request, edit the contract, and initiate a new signature process before you or any other signees can access and sign the updated contract.

After clicking the blue Edit button at the top of the contract navigation bar, the sender will have to Withdraw the contract which returns it back to a contract draft state. Now the changes can be applied and the contract can be send for signatures again when completed.

Frequently asked questions
Can the other signees still sign the contract while my change request is pending?
No. Once any signee clicks Suggest changes or Reject contract, the contract is immediately hidden from all recipients and collaborators. The signature process is blocked until the sender updates and resends the contract for signatures.
What if I want to edit specific text in the contract body instead of leaving a general change request message?
To add actionable, redlined suggestions or comments to specific body text, the contract must still be in the drafting phase, and the sender must specifically share the draft with you using permissions enabling commenting and suggesting. If the contract is sent (pending signatures), you can only request a general change request.
