Document history in drafts

The document history section of contract drafts automatically logs the following completed activities:

  • Draft creation

  • Draft shares

  • Task creation

  • Task completion

  • Edits in the document body

  • Views

  • Downloads

Document history in pending and signed contracts

Once a draft is sent for signatures, it becomes a pending contract and eventually a signed contract. The document history section will update to reflect this new phase. To protect sensitive internal workflows, the document history will no longer display the details of the draft-related stages. The completed activities will be compressed to show:

  • Contract creation

  • Send out for signatures

  • Contract shares

  • Task creation

  • Task completion

  • Contract views

  • Contract signed

Frequently asked questions

  • Can I see how many times a pending contract is opened by the recipient?

Yes, the contract owner can always see how many times a pending contract was viewed by any of the counterparties, and exactly when, by looking at the contract's document history section at the bottom of the page.

  • What happens with the document history when I save a pending contract as a new draft?

If you save a pending or signed contract as a new draft, the document history section will be initiated from scratch and will only contain the draft’s creation activity logged in the overview. It will not visualize any details of the activities performed in the original contract.

  • What happens to the document history in the downloaded as a PDF or Word contract?

    • If you download a draft as a Word or PDF, there will no longer be document history section in the file.

    • If a contract is pending or signed and you download it as PDF, you will only see the "Audit trail" at the bottom of the file. This includes only the timestamps for signing of all signees.
