Access and sign a contract as a recipient

Accessing and signing a contract requires you to be a designated signee on the contract. You do not need a pre-existing Contractbook account to complete this process, as a free Recipient account is automatically created for you.

Once you receive a signature request, follow these steps to review and sign the agreement:

Receive and open the contract

  • If you have not used Contractbook before, you can open the contract sent to you from the email notification requesting your signature and click the blue Sign with Contractbook button.

  • If you are an existing user and are currently logged in to your Contractbook account, you can also click on the Home tab at the top menu to view all pending contracts awaiting your signature under the Ready for my signature section. Click the blue Review and sign button from that section.

  • Alternatively, you can access the contract from your in-app notifications drop-down menu by clicking on the specific notification.

Review, suggest changes, or reject

  • If you do not wish to sign the contract, click the three dots menu in the upper-left corner next to the contract title.

  • Click Reject contract to dismiss the contract entirely. For more details, refer to our guide on Rejecting a contract.

  • Click Suggest changes to send a proposed amendment back to the contract sender. For more details, refer to our guide on [Suggesting changes to a received contract].

Complete the signature process

  • Click the green Sign the contract button at the top right corner to begin.

  • If the sender has assigned required data fields for you to fill in, the system will automatically guide you to complete those steps first. For more details, refer to our guide on [Filling in data fields as a recipient].

  • Once any required steps are complete, the signature module will automatically expand.

  • Follow the prompts to complete your signature using the specific signature method(s) the sender has selected for you.

Post-signing and account creation

Once your signature is complete, a success message will appear with the following options:

  • Click Proceed to contract to view the fully signed agreement on the platform.

  • Click Download the contract here to save it as a PDF file directly to your device.

  • For first-time user, click Create a password to secure the free Recipient account that was automatically generated for you. This allows you to safely store your contracts and access basic platform features.

  • Click Set reminders for important dates and tasks to easily create reminder tasks for you or others based on important contract data.

  • Click Share the contract with your company to enable other users in your company or external collaborators to access the signed contract in Contractbook with specific shared permissions you want to assign them.

Frequently asked questions

  • Why is the contract still pending after I added my signature?

If the contract sender has set up a specific signature order, the contract will remain in a pending state until all required parties have completed their signatures. You will receive a final email notification confirming the contract is fully signed once the last signee in the order has successfully signed.

  • What should I do if I experience issues with the signature process?

If you encounter any technical issues or cannot sign a contract you received, contact our Support Team for assistance.
