Send Slack notification automatically when a contract is opened
To build automations that apply to all company contracts or utilize templates from shared template spaces, you must have user permissions to “Manage all contracts” enabled for your account, be the creator or have shared “Manage templates” permissions in the specific source template space.

Configure the contract is opened trigger
To understand how to track when a pending contract is opened by any of the signees, this trigger removes the need to manually search through the document history section.
Click the Automations tab from the main navigation menu on the left side of the screen.
Click the blue Create new button in the top right corner of the page.
Select Contract is opened from the trigger drop-down menu.
Choose the specific document scope from the options list to automate the notifications for all opened contracts, specific contracts, or contracts drafted from a specific template.
Click the blue Save button to confirm your trigger configuration.
Every time a contract you have selected is opened the automated process will start.

Configure the automation action
Once your trigger is saved, you need to define the automated action that occurs when the pending contract is opened. In this example, we will set up an alert to send a notification in Slack.
Click the Add action button located below your saved trigger.
Search for and select Send a message on Slack from the available action options.
Select the specific public, or private Slack channel where you want the automatic message to be sent.
Scroll down to the Direct messages section to select a direct Slack conversation instead.
Customize the text within the message field. You can include static text and variables to fetch data fields or other document-related information (such as signee, document and automation-related events) directly from the pending contract selected in the previous automation step.
Click the blue Save button to complete the settings for the automatic Slack notification.

Publish and test your automation
Click the Automation name field in the upper left corner to give your workflow a clear, descriptive title (e.g., "Slack update on an opened sales contract").
Click the blue Publish button in the top right corner to activate the workflow.
Test the flow by creating a new contract draft from the template you selected in the trigger event, sending it for signatures to a colleague, and asking them to open the contract from their email inbox or account notifications.
Check the Notifications bell icon in your main navigation in Contractbook to verify if the automation run was successful.
